Fire helmet and hose

I was so excited to work on this cake. I'm very pleased with hwo it turned out. I'm not exactly sure what the cake is for other than a woman's husband. It could be a birthday I guess. All in all, I hope they really like it. It's mocha cake with ganache and marshmallow fondant. The badge on the hat is the logo that she sent me. (see below) I think it looks great!!!! Hopefully the client will like it!!!!

Flower Basket Birthday Cake

I love a challenge, I think I've said that in the past, but this is the first time that I was REALLY nervous for a cake.

1. I was given a family recipe to bake for the cake.
2. I was making it for a cake baker/decorator.
3. There were specific requests as far as color, product use, etc.

I'm not saying that the client was difficult, far from it. I just put a lot of pressure on myself to try and get this one right. Lucky for me I got GREAT feedback and the client was VERY pleased.

Minnie Mouse

Here's a Vanilla pound Minnie Mouse cake I did for a little girls second birthday. The ears are made of chocolate and the rest of the cake is vanilla buttercream and vanilla pound. I was so excited I used a new method to get my buttercream smooth and it worked really well. I used a paint roller!!!

Crazy times ahead...

One of my busiest weeks yet is quickly approaching. I'm SO excited. Right now it feels like the calm before the storm. :) Most of my orders tend to be on weekends generally, Friday and Saturday pick ups. But next week I've got cakes through the week and I'm really excited about that! Lot's of baby showers too! Yay for the baby boom. :) Cakes in the next week or so include a baby bum, baby rattle, flower basket, Minnie Mouse and Toy Story... that's just to name a few! Keep checking back to see the final creations!

On another note... I got to do another spiderman cake last night. Happy Birthday Nikolas! He's my daughter's daycare providers son, who turned 4. WOW. I didn't take any pictures of the cake, but here's what the last one looked like... they're virtually identical!

This is a birthday cake I did for a 3 year old. She want a white and chocolate flavored cake with flowers. It's based on a design I had favorited a while ago and really liked it. It's fudge marble cake with buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant accents. The 3 is made of chocolate. I hope the birthday girl enjoys it!

Happy birthday to a boy, his Grandmother and Aunt...

I was asked to do a cake for 3 family members celebrating together. The client asked if I could incorporate the 'people' on the cake. She sent me photos and that's what I did. All 3 of them 'hanging around' for their birthday celebrations. Cake is peanut butter pound with chocolate fudge frosting. People, rug and chair are made of fondant... chair is actually rice krispie treats covered in fondant. I hope they love themselves!!!!

Technology...

Do you have any idea how dependent we are on technology? I knew I was to some degree... but Tuesday night my laptop died. The laptop that holds my recipes, my flavors list, my photos, my database, my calendar/schedule, my e-tickets for our flight to Florida... oh the list goes on. A part of me died along with that laptop. Luckily my husband is a partial techy... and has techy friends and they are on a mission to recover as much as possible. My first reaction was frustration, anger, panic. Now while I'm still angry and a little panicked, I'm more in the withdrawl stage. I swear I'm shaking because I can't get to certain files. It certainly tought me a valuable lesson. BACK UP. Luckily I did back up a few months ago, so the loss isn't as substantial BUT every single one of my orders is on that machine and partially in my head. I'm jotting them down in my daytimer as I remember them... I'm hoping that by the weekend I'll at least have my calendar recovered. 2nd lesson, don't put all your eggs in 1 basket. It's encouraged me to create a more organizd system to keep track of my orders. While I'd like to save the planet from wasted paper, I think I'll be printing orders and filing them away. I tried relying on technology, but after this incident, I think I'll use technology, but always have Plan B in motion...

Wish me luck!!!!

Happy 80th Birthday

What better way to celebrate turning 80 than with a Mickey Mouse cake? This lady sounds like my kind of 80 year old! Apparently the young birthday girl is a big Mickey Mouse fan and her granddaughter thought it woudl be a fantastic way for her to celebrate the milestone. The cake is fudge marble, with vanilla buttercream. Covered in marshmallow fondant. The ears are modelling chocolate. I do hope the birthday girl loves it!
