Lamb cake

Now this cake was a challenge. To make a long story short, it was the 'closest call' I've had yet. Cake was baked and I was decorating nice and early, until I noticed the cake tipping....Any time I touched the cake it would wobble. I knew I was going to have to fix it. Or else I'd have a nightmare on my hands. So...at 12am, I had to make the decision to bake a new cake. So, a new cake went in the oven. I woke up bright and early (didn't get much sleep regardless)and started decorating. In the end, I think it turned out quite well. I just hope the client liked it. My whole family had a part in this cake...

Present/Gift cake

I was asked to do a present/gift cake. It's a red velvet cake, with buttercream frosting, and fondant accents. The birthday girls favorite color was yellow.

Laptop Cake

I was asked to do a laptop cake for a coworker who works in IT who was leaving for a new position. I piped every single key...it took quite some time. Sadly I couldn't get the monitor to stand like I wanted so I had to deliver it in pieces and have the ones presenting the cake assemble at the last minute. Enjoy!

Air Force Birthday Cake...

I got a call from my aunt earlier this week, wanting to order a cake for her best friends son. I always ask for a little inspiration, something to run with. Well no need to ask her, she came with a few ideas that seemed REALLY exciting. The boy, well man, who was celebrating his birthday is going to university for some sort of engineering degree, through the military program, specifically with the Canadian Air Force. She suggested I use Camouflage, maybe include the Canadian Air Force logo, and of course, Happy Birthday Don. I thought, and thought and thought. This one wasn't really that easy. I wasn't totally sure what I was going to do until I was about to bake the cakes. Initially I was going to do a 2 layer 8" cake, but figured it wouldn't allow me to be as creative. So I decided to go with an 8" and a 6". Bottom layer would be camouflage and top layer would have the logo. But then it was to come up with the idea of where to put the Happy Birthday wish... My brother was sitting there with me and I asked him to draw (as best he could) one of the many Air Force Planes. My idea was to make a small plane out of fondant with a banner 'flying' from it... I am absolutely, positively thrilled with the result. Sadly, I don't feel that the picture captures the entirety of the cake that well.

Before the plane and banner were added and then the final product!

Girly Dinosaur

I got a new cake pan for a cake I have to do this weekend, so I figured I should try it out before I make the cake. WELL... I LOVE IT. It's actually supposed to be a bear, but essentially, it just gives you a shape that you can modify however you chose. I found lot's of ideas, elephants, tigers, pandas, bumble bees, Santa Claus oh the list goes on. I also seen a mean looking dinosaur and thought, gee I could make a cute dinosaur. A girly dinosaur! So I went to work to do just that. Boy am I happy with the results. I got a really cute dinosaur that I just want to hug. I don't know if I could cut into this one, to be honest. That's only happened once before for me. I rarely become emotionally attached to a cake. It was with the lightening McQueen cake. I'm not sure what it is, but every once in a while, a cake becomes really special to me. This fire breathing dinosaur gal was brought to my husbands work, for them to enjoy! She's made of red velvet cake (minus the red), buttercream frosting and a few chocolate 'spikes'. TFL....

CARIS Summer Games

I was asked to do a cake for CARIS' (local software company/former place of employment) summer games week. They gave me the poster they used to promote the games and asked that it be made into a cake. The 8.5x11 poster is just above the cake. I think it turned out pretty good. While making this I did have my first cake disaster though, one of the slabs fell to the floor. (the cake is made up of 4 slabs). It added about an extra 3 hours to my night, but that's ok. I was pleased with the outcome in the end.

Surprise Bday Cake

This is a "surprise" cake I did for a friend of mine. Her favorite colors are orange and lime green. The top tier is a french vanilla cake, the bottom tier is marble. I think it turned out cute.

Basketball Cake

I don't think I shared this one when I did it. I did it fairly quick and wasn't altogether pleased with it, but I'll know what to do differently next time. Nevertheless, it's a chocolate fudge with buttercream frosted cake. Yum.
