Box of Chocolates

I was asked to make a cake for my work for putting together a fantastic summit! I thought about what to make that would be like a "thank you" for everyone. I was going to make a flower pot, to symoblize giving flowers to someone to say you appreciate them... but then I thought, OMG box of chocolates. Then it's not too girly for the guys... and the gang here really enjoys my cake truffles/Cuties. Soooo that's what I did. Cake is a new mocha recipe that I really enjoyed, covered in buttercream and a mixter of fondant and gumpaste (that I made myself. :) ) Lid is covered styrofoam.

Toy Story - #6

I got an email from a Mom who's son was turning 6. He's a huge Toy Story fan AND Toy Story opens on his birthday. Lucky boy. She asked if I could put something together, not too huge, for her family. It's a #6 with Woody and Buzz figurines. Hope he likes it!

RaceCar

I was asked to do a racecar cake for a husband who enjoys Nascar. They didn't want anything too huge. Something that would excite the little girl, but it was for the husband's birthday. So this is what I came up with. The car is made of rice krispies, so it can be eaten. The Cake is marble with vanilla buttercream. I did the checkerboard pattern with buttercream. I tried making marks in the top to make the car look like it was doing dounuts. :)

Monkey Business

I was sent this photo and asked to recreate the cake for her daughter's first birthday:

It's marble cake with buttercream and marshmallow fondant... it's hard to tell but it's full of shimmer dust too. The Monkeys, bow and flowers are all made of fondant. The little cake is the "smash" cake for the birthday girl. Hope they enjoy it!

Alice in Wonderland

A client liked my flower basket cake but wanted to make it Alice and wonderland-ish for their daughters birthday. After a bit of brainstorming and a few emails back and forth we decided on a garden on top of Mad Hatters hat, with an Alice and white rabbit. I had a lot of fun making this but I totally underestimated the time that went into it. It's chocolate fudge cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant accents.

Animal farm Birthday

This cake was for my daughters "best friend" at least that's what her mom and I are hoping for. :) Anja is the true farmers daughter... she loves animals and doesn't mind throwing on her boots to go trucking through whatever it is, to explore, and get her hands dirty. My daughter couldn't be more opposite. She seems almost allergic to dirt, getting a speck on herself and throwing the biggest tantrum. That said, they get together and play and hug, and really seem to enjoy each others company. Maybe some of that fun, rustic, roll around in the dirt attitude will rub off on Mia some. Anyways... when Ellen asked me to make Anja a cake, right away I knew I wanted to make a farm. After looking at a few ideas this is what I came up with. Absolutely everything you see is edible, and I think the girls did a good job at eating a bit of everything too. Anja had the cow first, then she gave the pig to Mia. Then they each had a piece of cake. The top of the barn is rice krispy squares. I'm not sure they ate any of that. :)

Dump Truck

Now this was fun. I hope to make more of these! A dump truck with a load of smarties. Wouldn't it be fun if you could actually get a load of smarties on a dump truck??? Anyways... the cake is chocolate fudge, with vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant. The wheels are rice krispy treats covered in fondant. It's for a little boy (Owen) who goes to daycare with my daughter. What's funny is that I made it didn't tell Mia who it was for and she asked if it was Owen's birthday cake. He must be a fan of dump trucks! :) Hope he likes it...

Another go at the BYG's...

I don't think I could ever get tired of Backyardigan cake requests. They're just the cutest little creatures, and they're so fun to work with. Not to mention it puts me in a song and dance mood...so I sing some of my favorites. If you're a Backyardigans fan you may know some of my faves, "Woah Daddy..." from Surfs up, "Simon Says" from Sinbad Sails Alone and "The corn song" it has to be my ultimate fave but I don't recall what episode it's from. Anyways... now that I've revealed the secret that yes, I am the one requesting to watch the BYG's, not my 2 year... I'll move on to the cake. :)

2 tier, chocolate fudge cake with vanilla buttercream. Characters are made with marshmallow fondant and the #4 is modelling chocolate and of course the Birthday boy's name is trent! Hope you like!

Tractor Cake

Tractor cake for a little boy's first birthday. The cake is chocolate pound, with chocolate buttercream frosting. The tractor is made of rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. The mom asked for a red tractor on a square cake. This is what I came up with.
