A taste of Fall

My daughter had a fundraising event at her school called the fall frolic. They had a bunch of different activities one being the cake walk. Basically musical chairs but whoever lands on the winning seat wins a cake. I volunteered to make a cake, I wanted it to be simple, yet fun, since it was for an elementary school. This is was I came up with and boy was I pleased with the outcome! (Vanilla cake, 3 layers in white, orange and yellow, candy corn and smarties.)

Work cake

I was asked to make a cake for the monthly birthdays in my department. I knew my crew would be good with something fun so I had Mia help me "play". This is was we came up with and I thought it was pretty fun.

Simple Birthday cake

I decided to make a cake for my friend for her birthday. I wanted to do something quick, but fun and pretty. I dug out my airbrush and sprayed a little purple, silver, shimmer and them just decorated as you would a typical grocery store type birthday cake. In the end, it turned out pretty fun and perfect for a quick birthday cake to put a smile on someones face!

Buttons and embellishments

I was asked to do a cake for a crafty girl. Something that she would like. Those are tough because you want the cake to represent them, so you have to find the right "feel". I had a vision in my head of what I wanted for her cake and I was thrilled with the outcome. Lucky for me, so was she! Everything on the cake was edible and hand made from fondant.I even got to use my airbrush... spraying pink, then a little shimmer! Doesn't this remind you of a scrapbook page???

Think pink...

I was asked to do a simple pink cake for a birthday. I've been wanting to try this design for a while so it was a perfect opportunity. It was really fun to do and turned out just how I wanted. Simple, fun... and pink!!!

Elegant Grad

I was asked to do a grad cake for a daughter of a crafty friend. You know... the pressure doubles when you know someone, and you know that they're artsy or crafty and you can't help but worry if your work will make the cut. Lucky for me they LOVED the cake. This is the first time I worked with pattern sheets of fondant. Honestly... don't get your hopes up... I don't think I'll ever work with them again.

My Birthday!

You know what's great about doing cakes? I can do anything I want for MY birthday. I love purple and pink. The brighter the better. I wouldn't exactly wear it, or paint it on my bedroom wall... but I love it. So I get to play with my cake. This is what I came up with for my own birthday cake. :)

A wedding to remember

This is probably the most important cake I had to make ever, in all of my caking. I got to make it for my brother's wedding. It meant the world to me, to get to make it. What's even better is the memory of working on it in Mom's kitchen, the night before the wedding. Mom worked on stamping the bottom tier and we just chatted while we got the cake done. The cake for me holds so much emotion... the time spent with my mom, the day my baby brother got married and the fact that I pulled off a wedding cake which is my most feared cake of all!

To cake or not to cake... that is the question

I think it's time to update the blog. I can't believe I haven't posted in over 2 years. It feels like just yesterday I was baking up a storm and had endless amount of dishes lined up on the counter for my amazing husband. (Yes, he seriously does the dishes... all the time!)

Even though I'm not technically "doing cakes"... I have decided to take on a few here and there. Lets be honest... I miss it... a lot. But I do have to be honest with myself and know that between my 2 kids, now ages 3 and 6, my husband, working a full time job and the joys of laundry, cooking, cleaning, and all the other overwhelming Mommy duties, time just isn't in the cards like it used to be. So if I can make it fit... I will do it, if not, I can't. Simple as  that. So with that. I need to update the blog with some cakes that were made over the last 2 years...
