I love doing dump trucks. I'm not sure what it is, but they're really fun to make. Maybe it's becaue they look like a toy you can play with afterwards. Anyways, this cake was made for my boss' son who was turning 3. I modelled it after a CAT dump truck and a Tonka truck. A little different from the standard dump truck. It's carrying a load of peanut M&M's. It's vanilla pound cake with vanilla buttercream.

RaceCar
I was asked to do a racecar cake for a husband who enjoys Nascar. They didn't want anything too huge. Something that would excite the little girl, but it was for the husband's birthday. So this is what I came up with. The car is made of rice krispies, so it can be eaten. The Cake is marble with vanilla buttercream. I did the checkerboard pattern with buttercream. I tried making marks in the top to make the car look like it was doing dounuts. :)

Dump Truck
Now this was fun. I hope to make more of these! A dump truck with a load of smarties. Wouldn't it be fun if you could actually get a load of smarties on a dump truck??? Anyways... the cake is chocolate fudge, with vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant. The wheels are rice krispy treats covered in fondant. It's for a little boy (Owen) who goes to daycare with my daughter. What's funny is that I made it didn't tell Mia who it was for and she asked if it was Owen's birthday cake. He must be a fan of dump trucks! :) Hope he likes it...

Tractor cake for a little boy's first birthday. The cake is chocolate pound, with chocolate buttercream frosting. The tractor is made of rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. The mom asked for a red tractor on a square cake. This is what I came up with.

Thomas the train
I was asked to do another Thomas the Train cake. I like to change it up a little, making the same cake over again doesn't include much creativity... My previous cake was made with a 3d cake pan, but this cake was different. I needed a smaller version of Thomas so he was actually hand carved, then covered in buttercream. I think he turned out really cute! Apparently the birthday boy was happy with it too!

Lightning McQueen - Take 2
Chocolate cake with vanilla and chocolate buttercream. The only comment I have for this cake is I HATE WORKING WITH RED FOOD COLORING. Other than that... I'm pleased with the cake...

Tow Mater and Lightening McQueen
How fun were these little guys? I don't do many all fondant cakes, but this time it was requested. While I don't particularly love the taste of fondant, it certainly does give the cakes a cool look. Hopefully the birthday boy will really like them too. Vanilla pound cake covered in buttercream then fondant. Everything is edible.

Thomas the Train
I was asked to do a Thomas the Engine cake for a little boy. These are the kinds of cakes I really enjoy. I'm not too familiar with Thomas, and this little boy is an expert in everything Thomas. Lucky for me he absolutely loved the cake! It was a ton of fun to make and I'm just happy I had another happy little customer! He's a vanilla pound cake, with buttercream, then fondant. Everything is hand carved or hand molded.

Optimus Prime
I was asked to do a Transformers cake. The boys favorite is Optimus Prime... well... I wish I could have done a cake that transforms, but that just won't happen. :) So, I decided to do the tractor trailer version of 'him'. I think he turned out pretty good. He's vanilla pound cake with vanilla buttercream. Everything is cake except for the two 'tubes' on the side of the cab (exhaust pipes???)They're cookie sticks covered in buttercream. The wheels are pure'd cake mix with black buttercream and molded into tires.

Monster Truck
I forgot to post these pictures last week, so I thought, better late than never!
I was asked to do a Monster truck for two brothers. One was turning 2, the other 4. Apparently they were very pleased with the truck! The cake is vanilla pound with a few vanilla wafers, buttercream and some chocolate buttercream for the mud. Oh and the tires are doughnuts covered in melted chocolate. Yum yum.

NB Karting Cake
I don't generally post many cakes pictures of one cake... but this cake is special and I decided that just one picture wasn't enough. I was asked to do a "karting" cake for the local karting awards banquet. I was SUPER excited to do the cake but the pressure was on to do something good. I Googled a bit, I searched here and there but in the end I had to go with my gut. I sketched out my idea and then, thanks to my amazing husband, I spent a couple, no a few, no MANY hours perfecting this cake. I'm completely overjoyed with how it turned out. By far it's my most favorite of all time. From the treads on the tires, to the trees, to the logo that I piped by hand, I just love it all. Lucky for me, the client seemed VERY pleased also.

TBM
If I was ever granted a do over wish, this would be the one. I mean it turned out ok... but to be honest, I know I could do better. A lot of things were against me for this cake, the main factor was time. In the end, it looks like 'their' plane, but it's not up to my standards. At least I know it will taste good!!! (Vanilla pound and chocolate fudge cake with buttercream frosting)

Air Force Birthday Cake...
I got a call from my aunt earlier this week, wanting to order a cake for her best friends son. I always ask for a little inspiration, something to run with. Well no need to ask her, she came with a few ideas that seemed REALLY exciting. The boy, well man, who was celebrating his birthday is going to university for some sort of engineering degree, through the military program, specifically with the Canadian Air Force. She suggested I use Camouflage, maybe include the Canadian Air Force logo, and of course, Happy Birthday Don. I thought, and thought and thought. This one wasn't really that easy. I wasn't totally sure what I was going to do until I was about to bake the cakes. Initially I was going to do a 2 layer 8" cake, but figured it wouldn't allow me to be as creative. So I decided to go with an 8" and a 6". Bottom layer would be camouflage and top layer would have the logo. But then it was to come up with the idea of where to put the Happy Birthday wish... My brother was sitting there with me and I asked him to draw (as best he could) one of the many Air Force Planes. My idea was to make a small plane out of fondant with a banner 'flying' from it... I am absolutely, positively thrilled with the result. Sadly, I don't feel that the picture captures the entirety of the cake that well.
Before the plane and banner were added and then the final product!

Lightning McQueen
I was asked to make a Lightning McQueen cake for a little boy (Trent) who's turning 3. Initially I was going to rent the 2d cake pan, and do it that way. Then I was inspired by someone elses version who used the car cake pan that I own, so I had to give it a shot. It took 3 hours to decorate, but I am very pleased with the outcome. From the color to the spoiler on the back (that's a Skor chocolate bar!) I hope they love it just as much as I do!
