Summer Treat

How fun is this?
Something great that you should try this summer for your kids. Hollow a round fruit... any fruit... melon, cantaloupe, orange, lime, lemon.... (do this by cutting in half and scooping the insides out) Then pour prepared jello into it, let it set then cut and serve.
My daughter LOVED it. If you’re REALLY adventurous, prepare a few different flavors, the pour just a little, let it set, pour a different flavor, let it set… you’ll end up with a rainbow treat. You might be able to dye lemon jello with food coloring (instead of making so many different flavors)… I’ve never tried that, but let me know if it works, if you do. J

Eiffel Tower

It really urks me when the picture in my head doesn't turn out in "cake"... Of course, I'm still learning and with every cake I learn something new. Which is why I still really enjoy doing cakes. At the end of the day, this cake is "cute" but it's my first cake for my new coworkers and can't help but feel it's a little below average. The cake is for a "man shower" we were having for a coworker who's getting married next month. He and his future wife are going to France for their honeymoon. I also made a few mini cupcakes and decorated with red, white and blue icing and mini flags of France... no pics of those.

At the end of the day the cake will taste ok... and that's all that really matters!

Laptop Cake

I was asked to do a laptop cake for a coworker who works in IT who was leaving for a new position. I piped every single key...it took quite some time. Sadly I couldn't get the monitor to stand like I wanted so I had to deliver it in pieces and have the ones presenting the cake assemble at the last minute. Enjoy!

CARIS Summer Games

I was asked to do a cake for CARIS' (local software company/former place of employment) summer games week. They gave me the poster they used to promote the games and asked that it be made into a cake. The 8.5x11 poster is just above the cake. I think it turned out pretty good. While making this I did have my first cake disaster though, one of the slabs fell to the floor. (the cake is made up of 4 slabs). It added about an extra 3 hours to my night, but that's ok. I was pleased with the outcome in the end.

à Bientôt Cake

A coworker is moving away, so we decided to have cake to bid her farewell. She'll still be working with the company, but just from another province. So it wasn't really a goodbye cake, more like a see ya later cake. Cake is Mocha fudge, covered in chocolate buttercream, with fondant embelishments.

Search and Rescue Cake

I was asked to do a cake for a coworker who volunteers for our local Search and Rescue. A longtime member is moving away and they're having a going away party for him. I decided to incorporate the teams logo. I didn't get the whole thing on the cake, but overall I'm pleased.

Company Picnic Cake

Here's a cake I did for my company picnic. It was a huge hit! It's partly chocolate pound cake, and partly vanilla poundcake. Everything is edible except for the top of the basket, which is cardboard. I was VERY proud of this cake!

Black Forest Cake

My first go at what I would consider a 'specialty' cake. This is a black forest cake with a cherry buttercream filling and whipped cream topping, with chocolate crumbs and cherry pie filling. Hopefully it'll taste as good as it looks!

Welcome Back...

A coworker is returning from paternity leave so I thought it would be fun to have cake. It's a 10" round, Chocolate chip swirl cake, with chocolate and buttercream frosting.
