Boy oh boy is right... This cake has an entire story of it's own. As I was loading it in the truck the top tier decided it would look better smashed into our backseat. I don't know how I did it, but I rushed inside, assessed the damage and realized that if I scraped all the buttercream off, the cake was ok. It was more surface damage than anything. So that's what I did. Delivering the cake had to be the most stressful trip. I brought my equipment with me in case I'd have to do emergency cake surgery on the seen. Lucky for me, take 2 held together and looked pretty good at the shower. The clients seemed very pleased with the cake, which is all that matters in the end. Bottom tier is vanilla pound, middle is fake, top is chocolate fudge. The letters were rice krispy treats covered in fondant. I think my heart will always skip a beat when I look at this photo!

CAT dump truck
I love doing dump trucks. I'm not sure what it is, but they're really fun to make. Maybe it's becaue they look like a toy you can play with afterwards. Anyways, this cake was made for my boss' son who was turning 3. I modelled it after a CAT dump truck and a Tonka truck. A little different from the standard dump truck. It's carrying a load of peanut M&M's. It's vanilla pound cake with vanilla buttercream.

Dump Truck
Now this was fun. I hope to make more of these! A dump truck with a load of smarties. Wouldn't it be fun if you could actually get a load of smarties on a dump truck??? Anyways... the cake is chocolate fudge, with vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant. The wheels are rice krispy treats covered in fondant. It's for a little boy (Owen) who goes to daycare with my daughter. What's funny is that I made it didn't tell Mia who it was for and she asked if it was Owen's birthday cake. He must be a fan of dump trucks! :) Hope he likes it...

Tractor Cake
Tractor cake for a little boy's first birthday. The cake is chocolate pound, with chocolate buttercream frosting. The tractor is made of rice krispy treats and covered in fondant. The mom asked for a red tractor on a square cake. This is what I came up with.
I have a few cool cakes coming up this week! Keep Checking back!!!

Toy Story - Buzz
I've fallen behind on posting pics. I haven't been as crazy busy as I was, but that will all change come Monday. I have 4 cakes next week! YAY. I was beginning to miss it...
This is a cake from last weekend. It's a fudge marble cake with chocolate buttercream. The Buzz Lightyear is made from fondant that I cut out in pieces and layered. The bedding is fondant and the stars are candy. The headboard and footboard are modeling chocolate. I was told the bday boy was super pleased with the cake! :)

Thomas the train
I was asked to do another Thomas the Train cake. I like to change it up a little, making the same cake over again doesn't include much creativity... My previous cake was made with a 3d cake pan, but this cake was different. I needed a smaller version of Thomas so he was actually hand carved, then covered in buttercream. I think he turned out really cute! Apparently the birthday boy was happy with it too!

Lightning McQueen - Take 2
Chocolate cake with vanilla and chocolate buttercream. The only comment I have for this cake is I HATE WORKING WITH RED FOOD COLORING. Other than that... I'm pleased with the cake...

Tool Box
A local business (and my former workplace) has asked me to do their "cake of the month" for the employees celebrating their birthday for that particular month. This month the cake was for 2 men who work in aircraft mechanics. I could have maybe been a little more creative, but I had seen a similar cake to the one I created and thought it was just too cool to pass. Hopefully everyone will like it. It's peanut butter cake, with peanut butter buttercream and marshmallow fondant. All tools are also marshmallow fondant.
Stay tuned to the next few weeks. I've got 8 cakes between now and next Sunday!!!!!
Tootles!

Tow Mater and Lightening McQueen
How fun were these little guys? I don't do many all fondant cakes, but this time it was requested. While I don't particularly love the taste of fondant, it certainly does give the cakes a cool look. Hopefully the birthday boy will really like them too. Vanilla pound cake covered in buttercream then fondant. Everything is edible.

30th Birthday Cake
It was my husbands birthday this weekend and I wanted to do a cake for him. He LOVES chocolate chip cookies, and white cake with chocolate frosting. So I did just that, with a top layer of chocolate cake and vanilla frosting. I don't often get to eat my cakes so it was a treat to have some, and it was GOOD!

Spiderman
Ok... my new fave... well I think it's a tie between him and Lightening McQueen, but yeah, I love him. So much so, that I think it would hurt to see someone cut into him. And normally, I'm the one begging people to CUT THE CAKE. Uhm...no. Not for this one. Maybe I should make myself one... Hmmm. Maybe I could make batman...my superhero library is slowly going to fill up with potential characters. How exciting!
Spiderman is a chocolate fudge cake with buttercream frosting. It's for a 3 year olds birthday. Hope he likes it!

Air Force Birthday Cake...
I got a call from my aunt earlier this week, wanting to order a cake for her best friends son. I always ask for a little inspiration, something to run with. Well no need to ask her, she came with a few ideas that seemed REALLY exciting. The boy, well man, who was celebrating his birthday is going to university for some sort of engineering degree, through the military program, specifically with the Canadian Air Force. She suggested I use Camouflage, maybe include the Canadian Air Force logo, and of course, Happy Birthday Don. I thought, and thought and thought. This one wasn't really that easy. I wasn't totally sure what I was going to do until I was about to bake the cakes. Initially I was going to do a 2 layer 8" cake, but figured it wouldn't allow me to be as creative. So I decided to go with an 8" and a 6". Bottom layer would be camouflage and top layer would have the logo. But then it was to come up with the idea of where to put the Happy Birthday wish... My brother was sitting there with me and I asked him to draw (as best he could) one of the many Air Force Planes. My idea was to make a small plane out of fondant with a banner 'flying' from it... I am absolutely, positively thrilled with the result. Sadly, I don't feel that the picture captures the entirety of the cake that well.
Before the plane and banner were added and then the final product!

Basketball Cake
I don't think I shared this one when I did it. I did it fairly quick and wasn't altogether pleased with it, but I'll know what to do differently next time. Nevertheless, it's a chocolate fudge with buttercream frosted cake. Yum.

Baptism Cake (Alexander)
Cake I did for our friends son's baptism. It was a hit. Yummy too. Cross is covered in ganache, the rest of the cake is buttercream.

Lightning McQueen
I was asked to make a Lightning McQueen cake for a little boy (Trent) who's turning 3. Initially I was going to rent the 2d cake pan, and do it that way. Then I was inspired by someone elses version who used the car cake pan that I own, so I had to give it a shot. It took 3 hours to decorate, but I am very pleased with the outcome. From the color to the spoiler on the back (that's a Skor chocolate bar!) I hope they love it just as much as I do!
