CAT dump truck

I love doing dump trucks. I'm not sure what it is, but they're really fun to make. Maybe it's becaue they look like a toy you can play with afterwards. Anyways, this cake was made for my boss' son who was turning 3. I modelled it after a CAT dump truck and a Tonka truck. A little different from the standard dump truck. It's carrying a load of peanut M&M's. It's vanilla pound cake with vanilla buttercream.

Animal print Birthday

I was asked to replicate a photo of a cake sent from a client. I just had to switch some colors around. I think it turned out cute. Flavor is chocolate fudge with vanilla buttercream covered in fondant.

Merry Birthday

A very special woman in my extended family... ok maybe not really family, but she cares for my daughter 5 days/week, listens to me complain about my day nearly every night and is willing to give advice on any little question I have, so that's pretty close to family! ANYWAYS... it was her birthday. She's a lovely lady who's OBSESSED with Christmas. How obsessed, well I'm pretty sure her ringer on her phone got switched to Jingle bells in early September. I know I've arrived many evenings and heard Christmas music on in the background and my 2 year old completely understands Christmas, Christmas tree, Santa, and I'm quite sure knows a few Christmas songs. Well when her husband asked for a cake he suggested doing it in her favorite theme. Since she's also a singer we thought it would be fun to have her family caroling. I made a snowman for each member of her family. Let me tell you, I'm pretty sure she loved it. :) Wanna know how great she is? My 2 year old came with me to deliver the cake and kept asking for a piece...within 5 minutes of us arriving she had torn off a pompom from a hat for my daughter to have. Cake was a chocolate fudge pound filled with mocha buttercream and covered in vanilla buttercream. Snowmen are made from fondant.

Slumber Party

Now this cake was fun. The research was fun, the sketching was fun, the thought was fun and of course the making of it was FUN. There's something to be said for watching a lump of marshmallow fondant shape into a nightstand, or a bowl of popcorn, or a pizza! I'm really pleased with this cake and I'm hoping the birthday girl will be just as happy!!! Cake is red velvet flavor, but with a multicoloring... rainbow of colors actually, pink, blue, green and yellow. It's covered in buttercream and then fondant. All accents are made of fondant.

Backyardigans... Again..

Doing this cake made me really miss these guys. My daughter isn't much into them anymore, but to be honest I think they're one of my favorite children shows/cartoons on right now. I love the imagination, the song and the dances. Anyways...the cake is chocolate fudge, covered in vanilla buttercream with fondant accents, characters are fondant. Apparently birthday girl liked it and they even saved the characters and have them on display somewhere. Not sure how long fondant will last, but hey...enjoy! :)

Dora the Explorer Castle

A cake any young girl would like! Dora the explorer and a castle cake! My daughter thought it was the best cake ever and insisted that it should be hers. It's my first castle cake...I was pleased with it. It's chocolate fudge cake. The turrets were made of rice krispies, the top steeple is an ice cream cone. It's is completely buttercream. Birthday girl apparently loved it!
